Recipe: Classic Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce

Ingredients:

For the Bread Pudding:

  • 8 cups stale bread cubes (French bread or brioche work well)
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup raisins or chopped nuts (optional)

For the Vanilla Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

Preheat the Oven:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

 Prepare the Bread Pudding:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread cubes and milk. Let it soak for about 10 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Pour the egg mixture over the soaked bread cubes and gently fold to combine.
  4. Add raisins or nuts if desired and mix well.

Bake the Bread Pudding:

  1. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.

 Make the Vanilla Sauce:

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Stir in the sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Bring the sauce to a simmer, stirring constantly, and let it cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.

 Serve:

  1. Once the bread pudding is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  2. Serve warm slices of bread pudding drizzled with vanilla sauce.

Note: You can dust the top of the bread pudding with powdered sugar for an extra touch.
