Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) cremini or button mushrooms, cleaned and trimmed
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for extra richness)
  • Lemon wedges (optional, for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms:
    • Clean the mushrooms by wiping them with a damp paper towel. Trim the stems if necessary and halve any large mushrooms.
  2. Cook the Mushrooms:
    • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. If using, add the olive oil for extra richness.
    • Add the mushrooms to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms are golden brown and have released their moisture.
  3. Add the Garlic:
    • Reduce the heat to medium-low and add the minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until the garlic is fragrant but not burnt.
  4. Add Parmesan and Parsley:
    • Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the mushrooms and stir to combine. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts and coats the mushrooms.
    • Stir in the chopped fresh parsley and season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Serve:
    • Transfer the garlic mushrooms to a serving dish.
    • Serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side for a fresh, tangy finish if desired.

Tips:

  • For an extra layer of flavor, add a splash of white wine to the mushrooms after they have browned but before adding the garlic. Let it simmer for a couple of minutes to reduce slightly.
  • These mushrooms pair wonderfully with grilled steak, chicken, or fish, and they can also be served over pasta or rice.
  • To make this dish even more decadent, consider adding a splash of heavy cream along with the Parmesan cheese for a creamy sauce.
