Air fryer chicken tikka recipes

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Marinating Time: 1-2 hours
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Serves: 4
Intensity: Moderate

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Marinade:
    • In a large bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, lemon juice, minced garlic, grated ginger, ground cumin, ground coriander, garam masala, paprika, turmeric, ground cayenne pepper, and salt. Mix well to create a smooth marinade.
  2. Marinate the Chicken:
    • Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably 2 hours, to allow the flavors to meld. You can marinate it overnight for more intense flavor.
  3. Preheat the Air Fryer:
    • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
  4. Prepare the Chicken for Cooking:
    • Remove the marinated chicken from the refrigerator. Thread the chicken pieces onto skewers if desired, or you can cook them directly in the air fryer basket.
  5. Cook the Chicken Tikka:
    • Lightly brush the chicken pieces with vegetable oil or melted butter. This helps in achieving a crispy exterior.
    • Place the chicken pieces or skewers in the preheated air fryer basket in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the basket; cook in batches if necessary.
    • Air fry the chicken at 400°F (200°C) for 12-15 minutes, turning them halfway through the cooking time, until the chicken is cooked through and has a nice char on the edges. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
  6. Serve:
    • Remove the chicken tikka from the air fryer and let it rest for a few minutes.
    • Serve hot with naan or rice, accompanied by a side of cucumber raita, lemon wedges, and fresh cilantro.

Notes:

  • If you prefer a smokier flavor, you can add a few drops of liquid smoke to the marinade.
  • For an extra touch of authenticity, you can place a small piece of charcoal in a metal bowl, light it, and then place it in the bowl with the marinated chicken for a few minutes before air frying. Cover the bowl to trap the smoke.
