Air fryer chicken tikka recipes
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Marinating Time: 1-2 hours
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Serves: 4
Intensity: Moderate
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
Instructions:
- Prepare the Marinade:
- In a large bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, lemon juice, minced garlic, grated ginger, ground cumin, ground coriander, garam masala, paprika, turmeric, ground cayenne pepper, and salt. Mix well to create a smooth marinade.
- Marinate the Chicken:
- Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably 2 hours, to allow the flavors to meld. You can marinate it overnight for more intense flavor.
- Preheat the Air Fryer:
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Prepare the Chicken for Cooking:
- Remove the marinated chicken from the refrigerator. Thread the chicken pieces onto skewers if desired, or you can cook them directly in the air fryer basket.
- Cook the Chicken Tikka:
- Lightly brush the chicken pieces with vegetable oil or melted butter. This helps in achieving a crispy exterior.
- Place the chicken pieces or skewers in the preheated air fryer basket in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the basket; cook in batches if necessary.
- Air fry the chicken at 400°F (200°C) for 12-15 minutes, turning them halfway through the cooking time, until the chicken is cooked through and has a nice char on the edges. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
- Serve:
- Remove the chicken tikka from the air fryer and let it rest for a few minutes.
- Serve hot with naan or rice, accompanied by a side of cucumber raita, lemon wedges, and fresh cilantro.
Notes:
- If you prefer a smokier flavor, you can add a few drops of liquid smoke to the marinade.
- For an extra touch of authenticity, you can place a small piece of charcoal in a metal bowl, light it, and then place it in the bowl with the marinated chicken for a few minutes before air frying. Cover the bowl to trap the smoke.
