Apple Crisp

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 45 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
Servings: 6-8

Ingredients

For the Filling:
  • 6 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Topping:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.
    • Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
    • Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  3. Prepare the Topping:
    • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
    • Add the cold butter pieces and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Assemble the Crisp:
    • Evenly spread the topping mixture over the apple filling.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
  6. Cool and Serve:
    • Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
