Buttermilk Pie

Ingredients:

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional, for sprinkling on top)

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Crimp the edges, and set aside.

2. Mix the Filling:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt. Add the melted butter, beaten eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth and well combined.

3. Fill the Pie Crust:

  • Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust. Sprinkle the top with ground nutmeg if desired.

4. Bake:

  • Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown. The center should be slightly jiggly but not liquid.

5. Cool and Serve:

  • Allow the pie to cool completely before slicing. It can be served at room temperature or chilled, depending on your preference.
