Texas toast sloppy

Ingredients:

For the Sloppy Joe Filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Texas Toast:

  • 8 slices Texas toast (thick-cut white bread)
  • Butter for toasting

Instructions:

Cook the Sloppy Joe Filling:

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned.
  2. Add chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are softened.
  3. Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, chili powder, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Simmer the mixture for 10-15 minutes until the flavors meld and the mixture thickens. Adjust seasoning to taste.

 Toast the Texas Toast:

  1. While the filling simmers, toast the Texas toast according to package instructions or in a toaster. Optionally, butter the slices for extra flavor.

 Assemble the Sloppy Joes:

  1. Spoon the hot Sloppy Joe filling over one slice of Texas toast.
  2. Top with another slice of Texas toast to create a sandwich.

Serve:

  1. Serve the Texas Toast Sloppy Joes immediately.
  2. Optionally, garnish with chopped parsley or shredded cheese.
