3 Envelope Roast

3 Envelope Roast

Ingredients:

  • 1 (3-4 pound) beef chuck roast
  • 1 envelope dry ranch dressing mix
  • 1 envelope dry Italian dressing mix
  • 1 envelope dry brown gravy mix
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Chopped fresh herbs for garnish

Directions:

  1. Preparation:
    • Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. Prepare the Roast:
    • Pat the chuck roast dry with paper towels. Season the roast generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Sear the Roast:
    • In an oven-safe Dutch oven or a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the roast on all sides until it develops a golden-brown crust. This step helps to lock in flavors.
  4. Prepare the Seasoning Mix:
    • In a small bowl, combine the dry ranch dressing mix, dry Italian dressing mix, and dry brown gravy mix.
  5. Coat the Roast:
    • Sprinkle the combined seasoning mix over the seared roast, ensuring it covers the entire surface.
  6. Add Liquid:
    • Pour the beef broth and water into the Dutch oven or skillet, around the roast but not over it, to preserve the seasoning crust.
  7. Cover and Bake:
    • Cover the Dutch oven with a lid or tightly cover the skillet with foil.
    • Place the roast in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 3-4 hours, or until the roast is fork-tender and easily shreds.
  8. Rest and Serve:
    • Once cooked, remove the roast from the oven. Allow it to rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing or shredding.
    • Optionally, garnish with chopped fresh herbs before serving.
