Ingredients
For the Filling:
- 6 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
Instructions
- Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish.
- Prepare the Topping:
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the cold butter pieces and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Assemble the Crisp:
- Evenly spread the topping mixture over the apple filling.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
- Cool and Serve:
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve:
- Serve warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
