Total Time: 27 minutes
Servings: 12 biscuits
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup cold buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
- Optional: honey or jam for serving
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well to combine.
- Cut in Butter:
- Add the cold cubed butter to the dry ingredients.
- Use a pastry cutter or fork to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces of butter.
- Add Buttermilk:
- Pour the cold buttermilk into the flour-butter mixture.
- Stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until the dough comes together. It should be slightly sticky but manageable.
- Shape and Cut Biscuits:
- Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
- Gently pat the dough into a rectangle about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick.
- Use a biscuit cutter or a round glass to cut out biscuits. Press straight down without twisting the cutter to ensure proper rising.
- Place the cut biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
- Bake the Biscuits:
- Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve:
- Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.
- Serve the butter biscuits warm with honey, jam, or your favorite toppings.
- These biscuits are perfect for a quick snack before or after swimming!
Tips:
- Handle the biscuit dough gently and avoid overworking it to ensure tender biscuits.
- For extra flavor, you can add a tablespoon of sugar to the dry ingredients or sprinkle some cheese or herbs on top of the biscuits before baking.
- Store any leftover biscuits in an airtight container once cooled. Reheat them briefly in the oven or microwave before serving.
