CHEESY SCALLOPED POTATOES
Cheesy scalloped potatoes are a comforting and delicious dish that makes a fantastic side or even a main course. Here’s a simple recipe for you:
Ingredients:
- 4-5 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (about 1/8 inch thick)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or any cheese of your choice)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for about a minute to create a roux.
- Gradually pour in the milk while whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Cook the mixture until it thickens, usually around 5-7 minutes.
- Reduce the heat to low. Add the shredded cheese to the saucepan, stirring until the cheese melts and the sauce becomes smooth.
- Season the cheese sauce with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Adjust the seasoning to your taste.
- Arrange a layer of sliced potatoes in the greased baking dish. Pour a portion of the cheese sauce over the potatoes, ensuring they are well coated.
- Repeat layering the potatoes and cheese sauce until all the potatoes and sauce are used, making sure the top layer is covered with sauce.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 45-55 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Remove the foil during the last 10-15 minutes of baking to allow the top to brown slightly.
- Once done, let the cheesy scalloped potatoes rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
These cheesy scalloped potatoes are creamy, flavorful, and a perfect side dish for any meal or a comforting main course on their own. Enjoy!
