CHEESY SCALLOPED POTATOES

Cheesy scalloped potatoes are a comforting and delicious dish that makes a fantastic side or even a main course. Here’s a simple recipe for you:

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (about 1/8 inch thick)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or any cheese of your choice)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for about a minute to create a roux.
  3. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Cook the mixture until it thickens, usually around 5-7 minutes.
  4. Reduce the heat to low. Add the shredded cheese to the saucepan, stirring until the cheese melts and the sauce becomes smooth.
  5. Season the cheese sauce with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Adjust the seasoning to your taste.
  6. Arrange a layer of sliced potatoes in the greased baking dish. Pour a portion of the cheese sauce over the potatoes, ensuring they are well coated.
  7. Repeat layering the potatoes and cheese sauce until all the potatoes and sauce are used, making sure the top layer is covered with sauce.
  8. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 45-55 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
  9. Remove the foil during the last 10-15 minutes of baking to allow the top to brown slightly.
  10. Once done, let the cheesy scalloped potatoes rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.

These cheesy scalloped potatoes are creamy, flavorful, and a perfect side dish for any meal or a comforting main course on their own. Enjoy!
