Ingredients:

For the Salad:

  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef or turkey
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix
  • 1 head iceberg lettuce, shredded
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup corn kernels (fresh, frozen, or canned)
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup green onions, sliced
  • 1 cup crushed Doritos (Nacho Cheese flavor works well)

For the Dressing:

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning mix

Instructions:

  1. Cook Ground Meat:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or turkey until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary. Add the taco seasoning mix and water according to the packet instructions. Simmer until the mixture thickens. Set aside to cool.
  2. Prepare Salad Base:
    • In a large salad bowl, combine shredded iceberg lettuce, halved cherry tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, black beans, corn, sliced black olives, and green onions.
  3. Add Cooled Taco Meat:
    • Once the taco meat has cooled, add it to the salad bowl. Toss the salad ingredients together to distribute the seasoned meat evenly.
  4. Prepare Dressing:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, and taco seasoning until well combined. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
  5. Assemble Taco Salad:
    • Pour the dressing over the salad mixture and toss until everything is well coated.
  6. Add Doritos:
    • Just before serving, sprinkle the crushed Doritos over the top of the salad. This adds a satisfying crunch and the classic Dorito flavor.
