Homemade chocolate syrup
Homemade Chocolate Syrup Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Mix the Dry Ingredients:
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder and sugar until well combined and free of lumps.
- Add Water and Salt:
- Gradually add the water to the cocoa-sugar mixture, whisking constantly to combine. Add the salt.
- Cook the Syrup:
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
- Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. The syrup will thicken as it simmers.
- Be careful not to overcook it, as it will continue to thicken as it cools.
- Add Vanilla:
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. This will add a lovely aroma and enhance the flavor of the chocolate.
- Cool and Store:
- Allow the syrup to cool slightly in the pan. Then, pour it into a glass jar or airtight container.
- Let it cool completely before sealing. Store the chocolate syrup in the refrigerator for up to a month.
Tips:
- If you want a thinner syrup, add a little more water while cooking.
- For a richer flavor, you can use Dutch-process cocoa powder.
