Homemade chocolate syrup

Homemade Chocolate Syrup Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Mix the Dry Ingredients:
    • In a medium saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder and sugar until well combined and free of lumps.
  2. Add Water and Salt:
    • Gradually add the water to the cocoa-sugar mixture, whisking constantly to combine. Add the salt.
  3. Cook the Syrup:
    • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
    • Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. The syrup will thicken as it simmers.
    • Be careful not to overcook it, as it will continue to thicken as it cools.
  4. Add Vanilla:
    • Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. This will add a lovely aroma and enhance the flavor of the chocolate.
  5. Cool and Store:
    • Allow the syrup to cool slightly in the pan. Then, pour it into a glass jar or airtight container.
    • Let it cool completely before sealing. Store the chocolate syrup in the refrigerator for up to a month.

Tips:

  • If you want a thinner syrup, add a little more water while cooking.
  • For a richer flavor, you can use Dutch-process cocoa powder.
