Savor a Flavorful and Simple Apple Danish

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed according to package instructions

For the apple filling:

  • 2 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

For the glaze:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the apple mixture and stir until well combined. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, until the mixture thickens slightly. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about 10×12 inches.
  5. Spoon the apple filling down the center of the pastry, leaving about 1 inch of pastry on each side.
  6. Using a sharp knife, make diagonal cuts about 1 inch apart along both sides of the pastry, making sure not to cut into the filling. Fold the pastry strips over the filling, alternating sides, to create a braided pattern.
  7. Transfer the filled pastry to the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy.
  8. While the Danish is baking, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk if needed to reach your desired consistency.
  9. Once the Danish is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Drizzle the glaze over the warm Danish.
  10. Slice the Danish into portions and serve warm.

Enjoy this flavorful and simple apple Danish with a cup of coffee or tea for a delightful breakfast or snack!
