Air fryer crispy fried onions
Byadmin
Ingredients:
- 2 large onions (yellow or white), thinly sliced into rings
- ½ cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon paprika (optional for extra flavor)
- 1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or gluten-free breadcrumbs)
- Cooking spray or a little oil (to help crisp)
Instructions:
Step 1: Prep the Onions
- Thinly slice the onions into rings or strips, depending on your preference. Separate the rings so they don’t stick together.
Step 2: Soak the Onions
- Place the onion rings in a bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Let them soak for 10-15 minutes. This will help tenderize the onions and make the coating stick better.
Step 3: Set Up a Breading Station
- In one bowl, mix the flour, salt, pepper, and paprika (if using).
- In another bowl, add the panko breadcrumbs.
Step 4: Bread the Onions
- Remove the onion rings from the buttermilk and shake off any excess.
- Dredge the onion rings in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well-coated.
- Then dip them back into the buttermilk before coating them in the panko breadcrumbs. Press the breadcrumbs lightly to ensure they stick.
Step 5: Preheat the Air Fryer
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3 minutes.
Step 6: Air Fry the Onions
- Place the breaded onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You may need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
- Spray the onion rings lightly with cooking spray or drizzle a little oil over them to help them crisp.
- Air fry for 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking. Fry until they are golden brown and crispy.
Step 7: Serve
- Once done, remove the crispy fried onions from the air fryer and serve them immediately as a snack or topping.
