Air fryer onion rings

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 10-12 minutes
Total Time: 25-27 minutes
Servings: Makes about 4 servings

Intensity: Easy

Ingredients:

  • 2 large yellow onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray or oil mist

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Onions:
    • Peel the onions and slice them into thick rings, about 1/2 inch wide. Separate the rings and discard the small inner pieces.
  2. Set Up Breading Station:
    • In three separate shallow dishes, set up your breading station. Place the flour seasoned with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in the first dish. Beat the eggs in the second dish. Place the panko breadcrumbs in the third dish.
  3. Bread the Onion Rings:
    • Take each onion ring and dip it into the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, coat it in the panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere the crumbs to the onion ring. Repeat with the remaining onion rings.
  4. Preheat the Air Fryer:
    • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
  5. Air Fry the Onion Rings:
    • Lightly coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray or mist with oil. Arrange the breaded onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not touching or overlapping.
    • Air fry the onion rings in batches if necessary, depending on the size of your air fryer. Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the onion rings are golden brown and crispy.
  6. Serve:
    • Remove the cooked onion rings from the air fryer and transfer them to a serving plate. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup, ranch, or aioli.
  7. Enjoy:
    • Enjoy these crispy and flavorful air fryer onion rings as a delicious appetizer, snack, or side dish!
