Capicola sausage pizza

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 15-20 minutes
Total Time: 35-40 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded provolone cheese
  • 1/2 cup cooked Italian sausage, crumbled
  • 1/2 cup capicola, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced red onion
  • 1/4 cup roasted red peppers, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)
  • Red pepper flakes, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to your desired thickness. Transfer the rolled dough to a piece of parchment paper or a lightly floured pizza peel.
  3. Add the Sauce and Cheese:
    • Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges for the crust.
    • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and provolone cheeses evenly over the sauce.
  4. Add the Toppings:
    • Evenly distribute the crumbled Italian sausage and sliced capicola over the cheese.
    • Add the thinly sliced red onion and roasted red peppers on top of the meat.
  5. Season and Drizzle:
    • Drizzle the olive oil over the toppings.
    • Sprinkle the dried oregano and dried basil evenly over the pizza.
  6. Bake the Pizza:
    • Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the pizza stone if using) and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
  7. Garnish and Serve:
    • Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes.
    • Garnish with fresh basil leaves and red pepper flakes if desired.
    • Slice and serve hot.
