Fluffy fried balls

Preparation Time: 20 minutes

Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Servings: Makes about 24 doughnut holes

Difficulty Level: Easy

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional, for flavor)
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. Combine Wet Ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients:
    • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  4. Heat Oil:
    • In a deep pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Form Doughnut Holes:
    • Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop small portions of dough into the hot oil, forming doughnut holes. Fry 4-6 at a time to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Fry Until Golden Brown:
    • Fry the doughnut holes for 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown on all sides.
  7. Drain on Paper Towels:
    • Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried doughnut holes to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  8. Dust with Powdered Sugar:
    • While still warm, roll the doughnut holes in powdered sugar to coat them evenly.
  9. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Arrange the fluffy fried balls on a serving platter and enjoy them warm.

Note:

  • Customize the flavor by adding a pinch of your favorite spices, such as cardamom or cloves, to the dry ingredients.
  • You can also try dipping the fried doughnut holes in glazes or melted chocolate for added sweetness.
  • Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature to achieve a crispy exterior while keeping the inside fluffy.
