Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 2

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of your favorite bread
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
  • Optional additions: sliced tomatoes, cooked bacon, or caramelized onions

Instructions:

  1. Butter the Bread:
    • Spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Assemble the Sandwiches:
    • Place the slices of bread, buttered side down, on a clean surface or plate.
    • Distribute the shredded cheese evenly on two of the slices. Add any optional additions like sliced tomatoes, cooked bacon, or caramelized onions.
  3. Top and Press:
    • Place the remaining slices of bread on top, buttered side facing outwards, to create two sandwiches.
  4. Preheat Pan:
    • Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  5. Grill the Sandwiches:
    • Carefully transfer the sandwiches to the preheated skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until the bread is golden brown, and the cheese is melted.
  6. Press (Optional):
    • If you have a sandwich press or a heavy pan, you can press down on the sandwiches gently while cooking to achieve a crispier exterior.
  7. Check for Doneness:
    • Check the sandwiches periodically to ensure they are cooking evenly. Adjust the heat if needed.
  8. Serve:
    • Once the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, remove the grilled cheese sandwiches from the skillet.
  9. Slice and Enjoy:
    • Allow the sandwiches to cool for a minute before slicing diagonally or into halves.
    • Serve immediately and enjoy the gooey goodness of a classic grilled cheese sandwich!

Note: Feel free to experiment with different types of bread and cheeses to suit your taste preferences. Serve with a side of soup for a classic and comforting combination.
