Cooking Time: 25 minutes

Servings: 6

Difficulty Level: Easy

Ingredients:

For the Pie Filling:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground sausage (pork or turkey)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 4 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Cooking spray

For the Pie Crust (optional, store-bought or homemade):

  • 1 refrigerated pie crust or homemade pie crust

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Air Fryer:
    • Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Cook Sausage and Vegetables:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned. Add chopped onion and bell pepper and sauté until softened. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Prepare Pie Filling:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage and vegetables with Monterey Jack cheese, cheddar cheese, sour cream, beaten eggs, flour, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  4. Prepare Pie Crust (if using):
    • If using a pie crust, place it in a pie dish and press it to the edges. If not using a crust, lightly grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  5. Pour Filling:
    • Pour the sausage and cheese mixture into the pie crust or directly into the greased air fryer basket.
  6. Air Fry:
    • Air fry at 350°F (180°C) for 25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick; it should come out clean.
  7. Cool and Slice:
    • Allow the Monterey Sausage Pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing.
  8. Serve:
    • Serve warm and enjoy this savory, cheesy pie.
  9. Optional Garnish:
    • Garnish with chopped green onions, fresh herbs, or additional shredded cheese if desired.
  10. Enjoy!
    • Enjoy this Air Fryer Monterey Sausage Pie as a delicious and satisfying meal.

Note:

  • You can customize the pie by adding ingredients like diced tomatoes, jalapeños, or green chilies for extra flavor.
  • Ensure the sausage is cooked thoroughly to a safe internal temperature.
  • If making a crustless version, adjust the cooking time as needed.
