Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Potatoes
-
Place peeled and chopped potatoes and garlic cloves in a pot. Cover with cold water and add a pinch of salt.
-
Bring to a boil and cook until potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes. Drain well.
Step 2: Cook the Steak
-
Pat steaks dry with paper towels. Generously season both sides with salt and pepper.
-
Heat olive oil in a cast iron skillet over high heat until shimmering.
-
Add steaks and sear for 3–4 minutes per side for medium-rare (adjust time for preferred doneness).
-
Add smashed garlic, rosemary/thyme, and butter to the pan during the last 2 minutes. Spoon melted butter over the steaks to baste them.
-
Remove steaks from the pan and rest on a cutting board for 5 minutes.
Step 3: Mash the Potatoes
-
Return potatoes and garlic to the pot or bowl. Add butter and cream.
-
Mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 4: Cook Green Beans
-
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
-
Add garlic and sauté until fragrant (30 seconds).
-
Add green beans, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 5–7 minutes until tender-crisp.
Step 5: Plate and Serve
-
Slice steak against the grain and arrange on plates.
-
Serve with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed green beans.
-
Optionally, drizzle pan juices over the steak for extra flavor.
Tips for Perfect Steak
-
Use room temperature steak for even cooking.
-
Use a cast iron skillet for a great sear.
-
Let steak rest after cooking to keep juices inside.
-
Adjust cooking time for desired doneness: 3–4 minutes per side for medium-rare, longer for more well done.
Variations
-
Swap green beans for roasted asparagus or a fresh garden salad.
-
Add a creamy mushroom sauce or chimichurri for extra flavor.
-
Try different cuts of steak like filet mignon, sirloin, or flank steak.
