Title: Turkish Bread
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For Topping (Optional):
- Sesame seeds or nigella seeds
Instructions:
- Activate Yeast:
- In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
- Prepare Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until the dough comes together.
- Knead:
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
- Divide and Shape:
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a round or oval shape.
- Second Rise:
- Place the shaped dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet or a preheated pizza stone. Cover it with a kitchen towel and let it rise for another 15-20 minutes.
- Score and Top (Optional):
- If desired, score the top of the dough with a sharp knife or razor. Brush with water and sprinkle sesame seeds or nigella seeds.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Cool:
- Allow the Turkish bread to cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Time and Intensity:
- Preparation Time: 20 minutes
- Rising Time: 1.5-2 hours
- Baking Time: 20-25 minutes
- Total Time: Approximately 2.5-3 hours
