Butter Swim Biscuits
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Servings: 9 biscuits
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Prepare the Baking Dish:
- Pour the melted butter into an 8×8-inch baking dish or a similar-sized oven-safe dish.
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Add Buttermilk:
- Pour the buttermilk into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The dough will be quite wet and sticky.
- Add Dough to Baking Dish:
- Carefully transfer the dough to the baking dish, spreading it evenly over the melted butter. The butter will start to come up the sides of the dough, which is what you want.
- Score the Dough:
- Using a sharp knife, cut the dough into 9 squares. This will make it easier to separate the biscuits after baking.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Serve:
- Allow the biscuits to cool for a few minutes in the baking dish before cutting along the scored lines and serving.
Tips
- Flour: For a fluffier texture, you can use a mix of all-purpose flour and cake flour.
- Add-ins: Mix in shredded cheese, chopped herbs, or garlic powder to the dough for additional flavor.
- Buttermilk Substitute: If you don’t have buttermilk, you can make a substitute by adding 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice to 1 3/4 cups of milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using.
Enjoy your buttery, melt-in-your-mouth biscuits!
