Air fryer French fries

Description:

Air Fryer French Fries are a healthier and equally delicious alternative to deep-fried fries. They are crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and perfectly seasoned. Made with minimal oil, these fries are quick to prepare and can be customized with your favorite seasonings.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large russet potatoes
  • 1-2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)

Equipment:

  • Air fryer
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Mixing bowl

Instructions:

Preparation (10-15 minutes):

  1. Prepare the Potatoes:
    • Wash and peel (if desired) the potatoes. Cut them into thin, even strips, about 1/4-inch thick, to ensure they cook evenly.
  2. Soak the Potatoes:
    • Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch, which leads to crispier fries. Drain and pat dry thoroughly with a kitchen towel.
  3. Season the Potatoes:
    • In a mixing bowl, toss the potatoes with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika until evenly coated.

Cooking the Fries (15-20 minutes):

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer:
    • Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  2. Air Fry the Potatoes:
    • Place the seasoned potato strips in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
  3. Cook:
    • Air fry the potatoes for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking to ensure even crisping. Fries are done when they are golden brown and crispy.

Finishing Touches (2 minutes):

  1. Season and Serve:
    • Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt or your favorite spices if needed. Serve immediately with ketchup, aioli, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Total Time:

  • Preparation Time: 10-15 minutes (plus 30 minutes soaking time)
  • Cooking Time: 15-20 minutes
  • Total Time: 25-35 minutes (excluding soaking time)

Notes:

  • Potato Varieties: Russet potatoes are the best for fries due to their high starch content, but Yukon Gold potatoes can also be used for a slightly different texture.
  • Seasoning Variations: Experiment with different spices like smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, or Italian seasoning to customize your fries.

Tips:

  • Soaking Time: If you’re short on time, you can skip the soaking step, but the fries may be slightly less crispy.
  • Reheating: Reheat leftover fries in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3-4 minutes to regain crispiness.

Enjoy your crispy, delicious Air Fryer French Fries with your favorite condiments!
