AIR FRYER MAC AND CHEESE

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, cooked and drained
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray

Instructions:

  1. Cook Macaroni:
    • Cook the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Prepare Cheese Sauce:
    • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
    • Gradually whisk in the milk, mustard powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Continue to whisk until the mixture thickens.
    • Add the shredded cheddar and Parmesan cheese, stirring until smooth and creamy.
    • Remove from heat and fold in the cooked macaroni until well coated with the cheese sauce.
  3. Chill Mac and Cheese Mixture:
    • Transfer the mac and cheese mixture to a shallow dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until it firms up.
  4. Form Mac and Cheese Bites:
    • Once the mixture is chilled, scoop out portions and shape them into bite-sized balls.
  5. Coat with Breadcrumbs:
    • Dip each mac and cheese ball into the beaten eggs, then roll it in breadcrumbs, ensuring an even coating.
  6. Preheat Air Fryer:
    • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Air Fry:
    • Lightly coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the mac and cheese bites in the basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded.
    • Air fry for 10-12 minutes, or until the bites are golden brown and crispy.
  8. Serve:
    • Remove from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
