Cheesy garlic bread

Sourdough Cheesy Garlic Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 large sourdough loaf (either homemade or store-bought)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3-4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
  • Extra parsley, for garnish

Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2: Prepare the Garlic Butter

  1. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 3: Slice the Sourdough Loaf

  1. Using a serrated knife, cut the sourdough loaf into slices without cutting all the way through. You want the slices to still be attached at the bottom, creating a “pull-apart” effect.

Step 4: Spread the Garlic Butter

  1. Spread the garlic butter mixture generously between each slice of the sourdough loaf, making sure to get butter into every nook and cranny.

Step 5: Add the Cheese

  1. Mix together the mozzarella, cheddar (if using), and Parmesan cheeses.
  2. Stuff the shredded cheese mixture between each slice of bread and on top of the loaf.

Step 6: Bake the Bread

  1. Wrap the entire loaf loosely in aluminum foil and place it on a baking sheet.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
  3. After 15 minutes, unwrap the foil and bake for an additional 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly and the bread is slightly crispy on the edges.

Step 7: Garnish and Serve

  1. Remove the cheesy garlic bread from the oven and sprinkle with extra fresh parsley for garnish, if desired.
  2. Serve hot and pull apart the slices to enjoy!

Tips:

  • Customize the Cheese: You can use your favorite cheeses like Gouda, provolone, or Monterey Jack for a different flavor.
  • Garlic Intensity: If you prefer a milder garlic flavor, use roasted garlic instead of raw garlic.
  • Make-Ahead: Prepare the bread with garlic butter and cheese, wrap it in foil, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Bake when ready.
