  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients:
    • In another bowl, mix the sourdough discard, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
    • Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Add Chocolate Chips (Optional):
    • If desired, fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed in the batter.
  6. Bake the Brownies:
    • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Cool and Serve:
    • Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pan.
    • Once cooled, slice the brownies into squares and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
