Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups cornflakes, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare Casserole Dish:
    • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
  3. Mix Hashbrowns and Wet Ingredients:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed hash browns, melted butter, condensed cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, chopped onion, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Mix until well combined.
  4. Layer Mixture into Casserole Dish:
    • Spread the hash brown mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  5. Prepare Topping:
    • In a small bowl, mix the crushed cornflakes with 2 tablespoons of melted butter.
  6. Top the Casserole:
    • Sprinkle the cornflake topping evenly over the hash brown mixture.
  7. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is bubbly around the edges.
  8. Rest and Serve:
    • Allow the casserole to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
  9. Garnish and Serve:
