Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

For the Topping:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions:

For the Dough:

  1. Activate Yeast:
    • In a bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Prepare Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the activated yeast mixture, olive oil, salt, and gradually add the flour. Knead until you have a soft, smooth dough.
  3. Let it Rise:
    • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  4. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  5. Roll Out Dough:
    • On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle, about 12×18 inches.
  6. For the Topping:
    • In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  7. Assemble Breadsticks:
    • Brush the rolled-out dough with the garlic butter mixture. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese evenly.
  8. Cut and Twist:
    • Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, cut the dough into strips. Twist each strip and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the breadsticks are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Serve:
    • Allow the breadsticks to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm!
