GRANDMA’S HOMEMADE CAKE

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Baking Time: 25-30 minutes

Difficulty Level: Easy

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar:
    • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This can be done with a hand mixer or a stand mixer.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla:
    • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Alternate Mixing:
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
  6. Pour Batter into Pans:
    • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  8. Cool:
    • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Frost and Decorate (Optional):
    • Once the cakes are completely cooled, you can frost and decorate them with your favorite frosting, such as buttercream or cream cheese frosting.
  10. Slice and Enjoy!
    • Slice the cake and enjoy the nostalgic taste of a classic homemade cake.

Feel free to add personal touches or variations, such as adding cocoa powder for a chocolate version or incorporating spices like cinnamon for a spiced cake. Your grandma’s special recipe may include unique ingredients or techniques, so adapt this recipe to capture that special homemade taste.
