PIONEER WOMANS APPLE DUMPLINGS

Ingredients:

For the Dumplings:

  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
  • 2 cans (8 oz each) crescent roll dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups Mountain Dew (or lemon-lime soda)

For Serving:

  • Vanilla ice cream (optional)

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. Prepare the Apples:

a. Cut each peeled and cored apple into 8 wedges.

3. Wrap the Apples:

a. Roll each apple wedge in a crescent roll dough triangle, starting at the wider end.

b. Place the wrapped apple wedges in a buttered 9×13-inch baking dish.

4. Make the Sauce:

a. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

b. Stir in sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Mix until the sugar is dissolved and the sauce is well combined.

5. Pour Sauce and Soda Over Dumplings:

a. Pour the buttery sauce evenly over the wrapped apple dumplings in the baking dish.

b. Pour Mountain Dew (or lemon-lime soda) around the edges and in the center of the dish.

6. Bake:

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until the dumplings are golden brown and cooked through.

7. Baste During Baking:

a. Baste the dumplings with the sauce from the bottom of the pan a couple of times during baking.

8. Serve:

a. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

b. Serve the apple dumplings warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
